Reducing retail loss can be challenging for virtually any type of business regardless of size. Although there are a number of effective shoplift prevention training programs available. Preventing and deterring internal theft can be even more difficult. Statistics indicate that internal theft represents between 35 – 40% of all retail loss. This is approximately the same percentage of losses experience as external theft. According to retail loss prevention expert “ Fred Tarasoff” generally retail losses are much greater than what most retailers suspect. He says that most retailers severely underestimate actually how much of their profits are walking out the door in both the form of shoplifting and employee pilfering. Depending on the type of business, but retail losses can account for as much as 7% of total sales. Yet according to most experts, there are a few simple strategies that will greatly minimize internal theft.
