Shoplift Prevention Training CD Manual
Presenter Edition
This training program (on CD-ROM) is specifically designed for in-house use and will  train the trainer of your retail establishment. Your business organization may prefer to have an in-house presenter train your staff on retail loss prevention (shoplifting prevention) on an ongoing basis rather than contract out these services. This program, although relatively simple to understand is fairly extensive and covers virtually all aspects of Shoplift Prevention and Detection. Once the participant has completed the "Presenters Training Program" he or she will have the necessary skills, knowledge and material to effectively train both management and employees on various effective methods of reducing shoplifting. This will undoubtedly reduce your losses as well as add a higher degree of safety within your workplace. This training will also help reduce your chances of being sued by a suspect due to an improper apprehension procedure. Not only does this program contain all the necessary information on Shoplifting Prevention but specific links to further expand the Presenters knowledge and keep the Presenter up-to-date. Today's Shoplifter can be highly sophisticated, therefore it is important to be up-to-date with their latest shoplifting tactics. An instructional PowerPoint presentation is also included, which the Trainer can use to teach the audience. Instructional tips have also been included in this presentation to create even a more effective training program.

Please note that during the designing process of this program we closely worked with various police agencies, retailer associations, security companies as well as interviewed more than 300 shoplifters in order to get a complete perspective of what is becoming a growing problem for retailers.

Why is this Program Important?
Training will Reduce Retail Shrinkage and Retain Profits
The average retailer will suffer retail losses between 1% and 8% of annual sales. Generally the type of business, the level of security, the level of inventory control and the level of employee training determines the amount of losses a retailer will experience. Retail shrinkage including Credit Card Fraud, Check Fraud, Counterfeit Money, Robbery as well as Shoplifting can quickly add up and directly contribute to the financial hardship of a business. In fact studies are showing that a growing number of companies world wide are going bankrupt due to retail shrinkage.
Training Creates a Safer Work Environment
Violence has increased in the retail workplace. A growing number of aggressive incidences have been reported in the last few years between staff members and shoplifters. This is of great concern because this trend of both physical as well as verbal violence appears to be growing. Training has the ability to assist all staff members to better recognize a potentially violent situation and how to best deal with that situation. Often there are common telltale signs that an incident may turn violent.
Training Can Reduce the Risk of Being Sued
More and more businesses are concerned about being sued by a shoplifting suspect. This now is becoming a legitimate concern as a growing number of retailers are being sued by shoplifting suspects for improper apprehension, and/or false accusation. It is important to note that it is not uncommon for businesses or insurance companies to settle questionable cases out of court for between $5000 and $10000.
Training Can Help Employees from Looking the Other Way
In a recent survey it was determined that approximately 50% of all retail employees admit looking the other way during a retail loss incident (primarily shoplifting).  It appears that most untrained employees feel too apprehensive to deal with a retail loss suspect. Training helps make an employee more aware and at ease about how to deal with a variety of incidences.
Training Can Help You Become Known as a Tough Target
Thieves often will "prey" on an easy target sometimes for years, costing that retailer a substantial amount in lost dollars. Thieves will often share information with other thieves as to who is considered an easy target. Training helps make a business a tougher target by providing staff members with the proper tools to better recognize and prevent a potential retail loss incident. In a recent survey, even professional thieves claim to avoid businesses where staff members are alert and well trained.
Training Can Reduce Internal Theft
Internal (employee) theft is considered a major problem and represents approximately 35% of retail loss. A staff trained in retail loss prevention has been shown to help reduce employee theft as well. Why?  It gets employees involved in the overall process of theft reduction and some psychologists believe that this involvement gives the employee a greater sense of responsibility. Employees will tend to police themselves more effectively and training sends a clear message to every employee that the retailer takes all forms of theft very seriously and is proactive.
Due to budgetary cuts often police agencies no longer have the manpower, or financial resources to effectively educate merchants and their employees in crime prevention. Often crimes against merchants are not viewed as a priority amongst law enforcement agencies and are more often viewed as an inconvenience and nuisance. This course will provide many possible scenarios and the necessary skills to better prevent, detect and react to most shoplifting situations.
